Established since 1971 at the former Mandarin Singapore, Chatterbox
returns at Hilton Singapore Orchard with a brand-new space, menu and dining
experience. They are set to open next week, 14 Mar 2022.
My first visit to Chatterbox was at least 20 years ago and I
came back multiple times for business lunch, dining with family and friends
mainly for their Chicken Rice and Lobster Laksa. I remembered there is once Chatterbox
shifted to Top of the M offers 360-degree views of the city before moving back
to level 5, memorable experience. I feel that Chatterbox is not only just for
business meals and visitors from overseas, but also suitable for those who are
looking for a nice dining environment to catch up with friends over a meal or celebrating
an occasion. If your intention is just to have a nice plate of chicken rice,
finish within 10mins and go, here may not be suitable for you.
Their Mandarin Chicken Rice Set ($25.00++) is served boneless
with a side of fragrant, broth-cooked jasmine rice, and warm soup, accompanied by
trio of homemade signature chilli sauce, ginger puree and dark soya sauce. Aside
from the Individual Mandarin Chicken Rice Set, you have options to order Half
Chicken ($38.00++) and Whole Chicken ($72.00++) for sharing too.
The return of Chatterbox has an expanded menu, offering a
wide variety of starters, meat, seafood and vegetable courses (a short list of meat-free
items is also available).
Mackerel & Crab Otah-Otah ($18.00++) Wrapped in banana
leaf and grilled over an open charcoal flame, this traditional spicy fish cake
is a marriage of mackerel, handpicked crab meat and a mélange of traditional
Malaya spices such as lemongrass, shallots and coconut milk.
Lemon Butter Tiger Prawns ($28.00++) Double-fried tiger
prawns with curry leaves, a lemon butter sauce and some chilli padi heat
Sea Perch with Burnt Green Chilli ($35.00++) Green chillis
are grilled for flavour before being blended to lend spicy undertones and generously
topped over a fried sea perch fillet.
Lobster Laksa ($34.00++) Whole Boston lobster claw, qual
eggs, fish cake, thick vermicelli noodles and dried beancurd, served in a
flavoursome coconut broth of spices and fresh coconut milk
Seafood Hokkien Mee ($25.00) served on an opeh leaf.
Wok-fried Wing Beans with homemade sambal sauce ($12.00++)
Chatterbox’s Signature Coconut Ice Cream ($15.00++) A sweet
signature of 51 years and counting, twin scoops of coconut ice cream encased in
a coconut husk, finished with crunchy walnuts and tropical fruits
Chatterbox’s Punch ($17.00++) is an easy-drinking 21-days
vanilla, cinnamon, lemon, banana-infused gin served with house tonic.
